Sitting immersed in the animated and multifarious conversations of the 8th grade study hall, I am reminded of the vastness and complexity of human relations on our little planet. What a commotion on many levels! On any given day, at any given moment - consider the some 7 billion residents of Earth, bustling about, in motion, in thought, in words. The din of humanity's joys and deep sorrows is a continually roiling, undulating chorus of need.
I also find it intriguing that, as sound does not travel in the void of outer space, all of our loudness, our cries, our proclamations - they are all bound to a tiny thin layer of gases enveloping our planet. How small and how limited are even our proudest shouts of victory!
And yet, in our weakness and limitation, a prayer is lifted up. It is a comfort to assuredly know that our smallest prayers puncture time and enter Eternity, landing in the heart of the very One who makes intercession for us in Heaven. It is promised that our prayers, in fact, are heard before they are uttered. "But I am just one of billions!" you say. God's joy in reaching one person is recorded in Luke 15:4
"What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? "
Today, as you find yourself amongst the teeming masses around the world, remember that you are heard. You are heard, and you are greatly loved by the God who hears you.
